Fewo Köln presents: The Cologne district of Seeberg
Seeberg is located on the left bank of the Rhine in the north of Cologne. The district belongs to the district of Chorweiler. Seeberg is quite small with an area of around 1,780 km². The "Veddel", as the people of Cologne call their quarters in their dialect, has about 11,499 inhabitants. The incorporation took place on April 1, 1888, like many other parts of Cologne.

... is bordered by the B 9 to the east and the A 1 to the south. To the west is the Heimersdorf district, which borders on Seeberg. In the north, Seeberg then flows smoothly into the Chorweiler district.
Neighborhoods in Seeberg
Three districts have different characters in Seeberg. The quarters are separated from each other by extensive parks . The green parks not only give Seeberg fresh air, they also delimit the individual quarters from an environmental point of view with "green lungs". In the parks, residents and dogs enjoy the green.
Alt-Seeberg
The oldest district of Seeberg is Alt-Seeberg. Alt-Seeberg was built in the late 1950s.
Seeberg-South
The district around Seeberg-Süd was created in 1965. For the most part, there are only single-family houses here. The single-family houses were built as bungalows. At that time, they were very much in vogue. There are only a few multi-storey rental apartments.
Seeberg-North
Most recently, the Seeberg-Nord district was created. It was built in the 1970s. Seeberg-Nord borders Chorweiler. Willi-Suth-Alle and Merianstrasse delimit the two districts. Skyscrapers were built in a horseshoe-shaped line. There is also an extensive park. In between there are newly built single-family houses. Architects of an architectural competition realized their plans in the southwest of the district. Important architects participated in it. In the early 1970s, their plans were carried out. This is how a modern urban development complex developed in Seeberg-Nord.
History
The name of the district came about because of the Fühlinger See. This is not far from Seeberg. Only a small forest and the B 9 separate it. The second part of the name refers to Stallagsberg. It is a small increase in the west. The small mountain no longer exists today. The gravel was excavated. Now there is an artificial embankment. The hill was built as noise protection in the 1970s. The city council of Cologne granted the name on April 30, 1964. Fritz Schumacher created a concept for the "New City in the North of Cologne". Seeberg was the first part in the satellite city.
The Rum Orthodox Church St. Dimitrios is located in Seeberg. It is the former St. Mark's Catholic Church. However, this is still used by the Catholics in Seeberg.

Cultural and leisure
Seeberg-Süd has a small shopping center. Today there is only a butcher and a kiosk . Until 1975 there were still shoemaker shops, hairdressers, drugstores, laundry, bakery, an Edeka market and those already mentioned.
Buildings
Beyond the Neusser Landstraße on the B 9 you will find the Oranjehof. It is a mansion. Previously it was an entire courtyard and it dates from the 18th century. The Oranjehof Riding Club is housed here today. The stables became the facilities for the equestrian club. There is a tennis hall in Seeberg.
Educational institutions
Seeberg-Nord has a primary school. There is also a secondary school and a junior high school here: Henry-Ford junior high school. There are also some kindergartens and a few shops in Seeberg. There is a primary school and a kindergarten directly in Seeberg-Süd.
Traffic
Mercatorstrasse is the main street. This also forms the border to Heimersdorf to the west. Motorway exits lead to the A 57 and A 1 motorways.
In Heimersdorf, not far from Mercatorstraße and in Chorweiler, there are a number of stops for the Stadtbahn on line 15. The S-Bahn runs in Chorweiler on line 11. Seeberg-Süd has a bus line with connections to the Stadtbahn.
Famous Seeberger personalities
The actor Tom Gerhardt, who was born in 1957. He is an actor and comedian. Jürgen Milski (born 1963) is an entertainer.
